(Wednesday 4th October 2023)
We had an excellent talk from Carol Owen, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Ranger on Wednesday 4th October 2023 at 10am in St Mary’s Church, Walton East on:
“Nurturing and Managing a Wild Flower Meadow”.
This included a very interesting power point presentation which showed how two other churches in Pembrokeshire are improving their graveyards in this way. We were also given ideas on what we as individuals/families can do to help improve our gardens with wild flowers and wildlife.
As part of our Silver Eco-Award, we have introduced bird, bat and hedgehog boxes into the grave yard along with a bug hotel and a mini pond. Children from Messy Church have assisted in many of these activities.
We were also joined by Ginny Batt from the Hedgehog Hogspital who gave us information on this animal which is declining in numbers and needs our help. Part of our collection from our recent Harvest Service went towards this good cause.
People were then able to walk around the grave yard and view the work that has been carried out.
This was followed by refreshments.
